I've set up hourly backups of the entire hard drives of all computers in my home and office (thanks to the incredible Time Machine in Apple's Mac OSX). You should definitely consider doing something similar. If you don't know how, find someone who can help you do this. Make it a priority, and do it. If you have to pay someone to help you, it's worth it. If your hard drive crashes and you have no backup, you're likely to lose precious memories of all kinds.
Kelli's Recipe Box offers five separate backup options: Automatic, Periodic, Prompted, Manual and "Save a Copy As...". These options provide the user at least four full, separate copies of their data to fall back on in case one of the others fail. (Note that Prompted and Manual create the same backup file. Prompted simply reminds you to do a manual backup). These are full backups of all recipe data you've entered. All backups are stored in the Backup folder inside the main Kelli's Recipe Box folder. If a backup of the current type exists, it will be replaced by the new one. Here's how each backup method works:
| Method | Occurs Upon... | File Name | Auto/Manual |
|---|---|---|---|
Automatic |
quitting |
KRB_backup_auto.fp7 |
auto |
Periodic |

KRB_backup_periodic.fp7 |

Prompted |
quitting, when it has been two weeks or more since the last manual backup |
KRB_backup_manual.fp7 |

Manual |

KRB_backup_manual.fp7 |

Save a Copy As... |

Offering five backup options should give you added confidence that your recipes will be protected as much as possible from data loss due to software failure. Please take my advice above and set up your own backup routines for your entire system.
Before starting the upgrade process, make a manual backup of your data.
Drag only the newly downloaded "KRB.ddc" file into your main Kelli's Recipe Box folder. Your system will ask if you want to replace the previous version of that file. If you're ready to upgrade, confirm this choice.
Open Kelli's Recipe Box normally. Kelli's Recipe Box will attempt to determine if you are upgrading, and will prompt you if it thinks you are. If you aren't prompted to upgrade, choose menu option File > Retrieve Data, then follow the on-screen instructions.
Well, that's it! In just a few short pages you've learned all you need to know to start using Kelli's Recipe Box. If you have any questions that aren't listed here, please leave a comment with your question on the Kelli's Recipe Box section of our weblog. Thanks, and enjoy using the program!
