Section 2.2: Week View

Main navigation buttons - The navigation buttons for Week view are located in the upper left corner of the screen. Week view displays seven days at once, and nine hours for each day. For purposes of explanation, let us consider the first day displayed Day One of Week view. Click the right arrow button to change Day One of the current week to the second day of the current week displayed, and the left arrow to change Day One to the day previous to Day One. For example, if Day One is currently Sunday, clicking the right arrow would change Day One to Monday; clicking the left arrow would make Saturday of the previous week Day One. Hold down the SHIFT key on your keyboard while clicking the left arrow to navigate to the previous week, while maintaining the current Day One; holding down the SHIFT key while clicking the right arrow navigates to the week following the current week. Use the up and down arrows to navigate from hour to hour, or in eight-hour blocks when holding down the SHIFT key. Don't let the lengthy explanation here confuse you. Play with the navigation buttons in each view and you'll quickly get the idea. At the bottom of the Week view you will see the first five tasks for the day in the same column. If you need to view all tasks for a day, go to month view, or to the event list. In addition, the Day view displays forty-one tasks for the current day. Navigating to these screens is covered in the section titled The Button Bar.

Current month/year display - indicates the month you are currently viewing. This display refreshes as you use the navigation buttons to move from day to day and week to week.




Day headers - Click on the day header in week view to navigate to the corresponding day in Day view. The current day header will be displayed in black; all other day headers in Week view will be medium gray.




Events - Any appointment or task that has been added to the calendar is considered an event. After an event has been created, clicking on that item in Week view navigates to Detail view, allowing the user to change the specifics of that event, or simply to view the details associated with that item. Each day in week view can display four events per hour.

This brings us to a limitation of the calendar. In Week and Day views, only four items can be displayed at once per hour. Practically, this dictates that each user of the calendar should not own more than two events for each half-hour. If you are in Week view and have All Users selected in the User drop down list (shown below in the Button Bar), there may be events that are hidden. If so, select an individual user to see that person's events. If more than two events are scheduled in the same half hour for any user, those events will not be visible in Week view or Day view.
